Triple M host stops countdown after AC/DC’s Back in Black placed at No. 149

Triple M host’s furious on-air dummy as he STOPs the countdown after discovering his favorite AC/DC song was only at number 149

A radio announcer for Australian music channel Triple M paused furiously during the countdown of the greatest rock songs of all time over a controversial placement on the list.

‘Dangerous’ Dave Williams criticized the station’s listeners for voting only AC/DC’s Back in Black at number 149 on ‘Rock’s Greatest Hits 600 Countdown’.

Known for its iconic three-chord opening riff, Back in Black, from AC/DC’s 1980 album of the same name, is widely regarded as one of the greatest hard rock songs in history.

Arriving at number 149 during the countdown, it’s Back in Black. It’s AC/DC, and… stop it. Stop the number,” Williams said on the broadcast.

‘AC/DC. Back in the black? at 149? Excuse me. I don’t accept that.’

The radio host subsequently got several listeners on the phone who were shocked by the result of the poll.

Williams suggested the song would be placed so low because listeners just assumed “everyone” would vote for it so they didn’t have to.

‘What happened? It’s a given, people think, “Oh, Back in Black will be there – I won’t vote for it, someone else will vote for it,” he said.

‘I’m not playing it. I don’t play it on 149. I refuse to play Back in Black there. Every time we’ve counted down, it’s a given: Back in Black, top 10.”

Williams took over from veteran radio host ‘Ugly Phil’ O’Neil in 2019 on the award-winning Triple M radio show My Generation.

He has worked with many well-known industry figures including Eddie Maguire, Kyle Sandilands, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Mick Molloy and Dave Hughes.

He earned his nickname ‘Dangerous Dave’ because the aerial stunts he used often involved an element of danger.
