An Australian radio host has spoken out against the Australian fashion industry following the 2024 Australian Fashion Week.

Triple J hosting show co-host Abby Butler took to TikTok on Thursday to go on an extraordinary rant about the “feeling” she got every time she saw a post about AFW.

‘Australian Fashion Week. I’ve been getting a lot of content in my feed and I’ve gotten a really weird, vague emotion when I see it,” said Abby, who posts under the TikTok name ‘FlabbyGutler.’

Abby said she eventually realized the feeling was one of jealousy, not of the guests who attended, but of those who can wear the type of clothes being modeled on the runway.

‘I don’t want to speak for anyone else, but being a size 16 to 18, it’s fucking impossible. It’s very hard,’ he lamented.

“As someone who lives style and cares about fashion and loves talking about it and participating in it, it’s almost impossible to walk into a store in Australia and find clothes that fit.”

Abby admitted that while there are many Australian retailers that offer plus size options, she finds it especially difficult to find clothes she really likes.

“I know there are retailers that are doing it well, but a lot of it is like bodycon, it’s mid-length shift dresses, which is fine if that’s your thing.” But for those I don’t know, I feel like I want to dress a little more masculine,” he said.

He went on to complain that it took “months of research, hundreds of dollars, and literally tears” to find a pair of jeans that fit him.

‘It is very difficult. And I just saw the Australian Fashion Week content and thought, “I wish, I wish.”

Abby’s followers were quick to share their own grievances with the Australian fashion industry in the comments section.

“I find it very difficult to look pretty and elegant when I buy size 16. And all I want is to feel pretty,” one user complained.

‘Thank you for saying this!! Australian fashion skinny privilege is crazy and needs to be changed,” wrote another.

‘I want to scream every time I want to buy pants and they are never available in my size. “I felt exactly the same while watching the fashion week videos,” another user commented.
