ABC's Triple J has found itself in hot water after showing a rude word on its digital radio channel

ABC’s Triple J is in trouble after showing a swear word on its digital radio channel.

The station’s youth station played a two-minute song called ‘Bring Wet C***’ by Australian artist Zheani.

The ‘c’ word was reproduced 41 times in the song’s lyrics, which also included other offensive language.

The song’s name also appeared on DAB radio, where a listener lodged a complaint with ABC ombudsman Fiona Cameron, The Australian revealed.

The listener argued that the song was “sexist, misogynistic and disgusting”, but Cameron found that the “language was justified in the context of a song by an Australian rapper”.

He said “the content is not degrading to women” and claimed listeners were warned about “some foul language” before playing it.

However, Cameron has told Triple J staff to upgrade their DAB radio systems and make sure listeners don’t see the profanity.

It comes just months after ABC star Richard Kingsmill, who started as a Triple J producer in 1988, announced he is leaving the national broadcaster.

The musical director of the group Triple J revealed in December that he would be resigning after a storied career spanning more than 35 years.

“Creating the Unearthed brand and the initial concept was one thing,” Kingsmill, 59, said.

“Being able to discover characters like Missy Higgins, Grinspoon, G Flip and Genesis Owusu is one of the greatest thrills and privileges for me.”

Kingsmill said what he was most proud of “was seeing Triple J increase their Australian music content from 30 to 60 per cent”.

He couldn’t resist taking a chance with commercial music stations over his choice of music.

“For years the only thing I heard from the commercial radio sector was that Australian music was bad for ratings,” he said.

“Well, we did what we did and more than doubled our audience reach in the process.”
