A young woman killed in a horrific head-on crash on a notorious stretch of road has been remembered as ‘absolute sunshine’ and a gift to the world.
Nurse Phoebe Dawson, 31, from Manly, died when her Honda CRV and a BMW SUV collided on Wakehurst Parkway during wild thunderstorms on Sydney’s northern beaches on February 19.
She was pulled from the wreckage but was unable to be revived at the scene despite the frantic efforts of emergency personnel and bystanders.
About 450 family and friends gathered in Sydney on Saturday to say goodbye to the much-loved nurse.
Dawson is survived by her husband Tim, whom she married in 2022.

Dawson’s heartbroken husband said she ‘lived her life for family, friends and community above all else,’ The Manly Observer reported.
Dawson (nee Barnet) grew up in regional NSW and Queensland before heading to Sydney to study nursing.
She volunteered with children in Kenya in 2010 before starting her nursing career at RPA Hospital.
She and her husband spent many years traveling the world and working on superyachts before returning to Sydney during the pandemic.
She then worked at North Shore Private Hospital’s oncology department, South Steyne Medical Center and most recently Medtronic in Macquarie Park.
Patients and colleagues adored Mrs. Dawson.
‘She always went to work with a smile on her face, no matter how she was feeling. We’d always start the week by finding out what hen party or wedding she’d been to that weekend,’ added former workmates at South Steyne.
‘We laughed every day because she always started and left work with her full water bottle.
‘It was always impossible to get hold of her outside of work, she was the worst at answering messages, although she claimed she was getting much better.’
Dawson’s death also sparked an outpouring of grief on social media.
‘Phoebe you were a gift to the world, to all your patients, to all your friends, to me, to our families and especially to my big brother. Love you forever big sister,’ her brother-in-law James wrote.

Friends described her as the best and most beautiful soul.
‘Never stopped smiling and made the lives of every person she met so much better,’ wrote one.
Another added: ‘We will miss your beautiful face, the laughter and love you showed everyone who was lucky enough to know you.’
A former university classmate wrote: ‘I went to university with Phoebe and she was absolute sunshine. My heart aches for her family and friends and her partner. Forever young and forever in our hearts beautiful.’
Dawson’s death took the NSW toll in 2024 to 48, which has since risen further.
The male driver, 51 of the other vehicles involved in the collision, escaped injury but was taken to hospital for mandatory tests.
The police investigation into the fatal collision continues. No charges have been brought.
