The Liverpool right-back not only defeated Martial, Rashford and Greenwood, but also won an eight-man shortlist with Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount (Chelsea) and goalkeeper Dean Henderson (Sheffield United).
The award, which is for players who were 23 years old or younger at the start of the 2019-2020 season, was voted by fans.
It is the fourth trophy Alexander-Arnold has won since his breakthrough for the Reds in the 2016-17 season.
In addition to breaking an assists record for a defender, the fullback was also a goal threat
WHO BEATS ALEXANDER-ARNOLD TO WIN
Jack Grealish (age 24) – Aston Villa
Mason Greenwood (age 18) – Manchester United
Dean Henderson (age 23) – Sheffield United
Anthony Martial (24 years old) – Manchester United
Mason Mount (age 21) – Chelsea
Christian Pulisic (21 years old) – Chelsea
Marcus Rashford (22 years old) – Manchester United
He is also shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Season award, on the nominee list with teammates Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson.
Alexander-Arnold, who has played in all 38 league matches this season, has played a key role in the Club World Cup victory, the Champions League success and this season’s unforgettable Premier League title season.
Liverpool were in a league of their own from their 2019/20 rivals, going one time better than the year before, where they painfully lost the title to Manchester City by one point.
Alexander-Arnold was part of a defense that refocused, scoring 12 clear outs in the Premier League in 2019/20, a league-wide best.
Liverpool-born Alexander-Arnold not only broke an assists record for a defender, he also posed a goal threat, finishing with four goals in their 99-point season.
While few can grudge Alexander-Arnold when he claims the prize, at Old Trafford there will be disappointment that none of their three attacking stars has taken the gong.
Martial has scored 17 league goals this season, and Rashford equaled that number.
Meanwhile, Academy product Greenwood found the net 10 times as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished third and recovered to the Champions League for the upcoming campaign.
Defensively, Alexander-Arnold played a key role in Liverpool’s top 12 clean sheets
