Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted he has full “confidence” in the Liverpool board after they appointed former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.

Liverpool were in no rush with his signing after Klopp announced earlier this year that he no longer had the energy to continue at Anfield after nine years at the helm of the club.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was the original favorite before committing his future to the Bundesliga champions, while Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim was also mooted as a possible option.

Ultimately, Liverpool decided on Slot and the Dutchman received public backing from Klopp during his final farewell speech at Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season.

Slot failed to retain Feyenoord’s status as Eredivisie champions during their final campaign, but arrives in north-west England determined to lead Liverpool to a new period of success.

Liverpool vice-captain Alexander-Arnold was one of the emotional figures when Klopp left the club, but has now backed Slot for success following the England star’s arrival at the Monaco GP qualifying session.

Asked if it would be a smooth transition following Klopp’s departure, Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports:

“I hope you know, that’s all you can hope for,” he said.

“I have confidence in the club and in who we have appointed, so as a player the only thing you can ask is to trust in what the superiors have contributed and I am sure that it will be a smooth transition.”

Slot was recently seen exploring Liverpool for the first time before starting his new role and dined at popular restaurant Moor Hall as he tries to adapt to life in England.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold is enjoying a short break following the end of the Premier League season in which Liverpool finished third before returning to England to carry out his national team duties ahead of the upcoming European Championship.

The 25-year-old was named as a midfielder in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad and was also asked about England’s position as tournament favorites to lift the top honor in Germany.

However, the Liverpool star remained coy about the expectations inside the England camp, adding: “I don’t know what people are doing to us, we go there trying to do our best and we hope to come back with success.”
