Chiefs star Travis Kelce is now in the movie production business and his first film has received rave reviews.
Kelce is executive producer of the film ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’, a dark comedy (as described by IMDb) which was recently screened at the Woodstock Film Festival.
And the film took home the festival’s Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature earlier this month. Deadline reported.
The project also won the Haskell Wexler Award for Best Cinematography.
The Woodstock Film Festival judges also highlighted the film as “an outstanding central performance that delves into the darkness of the human psyche…”
Travis Kelce is executive producer of the award-winning film ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’.
The film is scheduled to premiere on February 28 of next year, shortly after Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
As Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, the film’s writer and director, said ScreenRantTwo of the film’s producers had a connection to someone on Kelce’s team, and arrangements were made for Kelce, a prominent supporter of the military, to receive a script for the military-focused film.
The tight end ultimately decided to support the film, which Hausmann-Stokes called “surreal.”
“It has really attracted a lot of additional attention. And ultimately, selfishly, I want people to enjoy this movie, but I want it to create change,” he told ScreenRant.
“So the more eyes on this movie, the more there will be a veteran somewhere. I don’t know who they are, but they will see this movie and it will be that little push that convinces them to talk about it. Just to talk about it. And I think what Travis did for us is just this tidal wave of energy and exposure, and yeah, we’re very excited to have him.”
The film involves an “Afghanistan veteran who comes face to face with her Vietnam veteran grandfather at the family’s ancestral lake home” amid a “mysterious relationship with her dead Army best friend,” according to IMDb.
