On Friday, the Richmond Council confirmed it would begin legal proceedings to obtain and enforce a warrant of possession.

Delays were expected as a result of a Supreme Court order earlier this month rejecting the Council’s request to extend the earlier expedited legal process, as with many other local authorities.

Instead, the council is forced to go through court to remove the group.

A local government spokesperson confirmed that once the travelers are removed, they will attempt to repair the damage caused.

Alderman Julia Neden-Watts, chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee, said Friday: “A small group of travelers has arrived in Kew.

This morning, Council officials will take the legal steps necessary to expedite their departure.

“A recent court ruling means that this process will not go as fast as residents would like and I know they are concerned, but we have to work within the law.

As soon as the travelers leave, we inspect the area and make sure that any damage is repaired and waste is removed.

“Our rangers, together with the police, will keep a close eye on the site until the group leaves.”

Richmond Council has been contacted for comment.
