A traveler has sparked intense debate after refusing to give up her seat in an airport terminal to a woman in a wheelchair.
The anonymous passenger, believed to be from the US, took to Reddit’s famous r/AmItheA**hole forum to ask if she was wrong during the heated exchange.
The 26-year-old explained how she arrived at the airport early to catch her 6 a.m. flight and arrived at the gate at 4:30 a.m.
‘When I arrived at the terminal, there were eight different gates, but only one was in use, so there were plenty of seats. Since I was early, I grabbed one at the end by the window.
‘I travel alone and I like to look out the window. “I started listening to my podcast trying to get the sleep out of my eyes and I kept it to myself,” she described her morning.

But about 45 minutes after settling in, he noticed that a woman and her mother were being “wheeled to the gate,” although he later noted that they were able to “walk on the plane.”
The couple then approached the lone traveler and “stopped to ask if he could move in.”
‘There were tons of free seats. Probably more than 100. I definitely had a nicer, closer seat,” she admitted.
“When they asked me if I would move, I said no. The young woman called me rude and made fun of it. Once again, there were tons of free seats and she had been there for a while. I would have stood or moved if there were no seats.
‘They sat in a row and stared at me the whole time until we boarded in the last group. On the plane, the person next to me called me an idiot for not moving for them. No one else offered to move.
During her stopover, the traveler began to question her actions and wrote the post, asking if she was the ‘asshole’ for not moving.
In an update, he emphasized that he was “not in the handicapped seat.”
‘Also, some people have invisible disabilities. I was traveling alone and I think they asked me because all the other people sitting at the end of the row seemed to be part of a group or family.
Other Reddit users generally agreed that the woman was “not an idiot.”

‘NTA’. Unless you are sitting in a seat specifically designated for disabled people, it is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“The use of a wheelchair does not entitle you to any seat of your choice,” said one of the most voted comments.
‘NTA’. They could have used any of the other seats,” a second agreed.
“NTA, unless it was specifically marked disabled, they were obviously using his disability to feel guilty,” a third chimed in.
And, as a fourth put it: ‘NTA Based on the fact that there were plenty of other suitable seats available and that your seat was not specifically marked as disabled, it seems incredibly okay that they expect you to move.
“If they could adequately justify why they needed that particular seat, then they could have had a case, but they didn’t…”
