A transgender woman has revealed that she shrank while taking hormones to increase estrogen in her body and help her transition.
Shaye Scott, 39, a transgender woman from Utah, was 6 feet 5 inches tall before she changed and shrank to 6 feet 2 inches while taking female hormones.
She medically transitioned three years ago, took estrogen, and underwent facial feminization in April 2023.
His wife, Amanda, measured his new height in a video that garnered 3.5 million views on TikTok.
Shaye Scott was 6 feet 5 inches tall before embarking on her gender transition. After undergoing estrogen therapy, she shrank three inches to 6 feet, 2 inches.
The caption read: “Estrogen can affect the feet and ligaments and cause some trans women to lose a few inches, but it depends on the individual.”
According to the University of California, San Francisco, “some people may notice minor changes in shoe size or height” while taking estrogen.
“This is not due to bone changes, but rather due to changes in the ligaments and muscles of the feet and spine.”
Mrs. Scott has also dropped two shoe sizes.
Ms. Scott and her wife have been married for 13 years and have three children, going through Ms. Scott’s transition together and overcoming the challenges of her religious childhood as Mormons.
One day, the couple was measuring the height of their five-year-old son when they decided to see how tall he was.
Others in the comments of the video shared their experiences.
One said: ‘I cringed too. I was 6’1″ when I transitioned in 2019. Now I’m 5’10”.
Another said: “I also got shorter, I was 5’10 and now I’m 5’8.”
Ms. Scott told Newsweek: “I’m happy to be a little shorter.” Most of us just want to fit in and live a normal life.
“I still feel like I attract attention at 6-foot-2, but certainly less than I would at 6-foot-5.”
