Arsenal have reportedly received an enquiry from Monaco into the availability of £27million-rated defender Shkodran Mustafi.

The German defender arrived at the Emirates for £35m from Valencia back in 2016 but he has struggled to endear himself to Gunners supporters during his three-year stay.

A series of high-profile errors has damaged his standing among supporters, to such an extent that some booed him when he entered the field of play during Arsenal’s 2-1 pre-season defeat by Lyon on Sunday.

The World Cup winner has become synonymous with the Gunners’ ongoing defensive woes but it now appears he might be offered a route out of the Emirates.

L’Equipe report that Monaco have enquired about Mustafi, who they report to be valued at around the €30m (£27m) mark.

The Ligue 1 side are drawing up contingency plans should they lose Brazilian defender Jemerson, who has just 12 months remaining on his current contract.

It is unclear as to whether the Gunners would be willing sell Mustafi.

They have already agreed to pay £27m for defender William Saliba, but he has returned to Saint-Etienne on loan for the season, while captain Laurent Koscielny has fallen out with the club amid attempts to force through a move back to France.

With numbers dwindling, Arsenal could be left short at the back should they allow the German international to leave the club.
