A man’s body was recovered from a rain-swollen dam after he jumped from a wall into the water and was unable to surface.
Emergency services rushed to Beardmore Dam in St George, south-west Queensland, after a man was reported missing on Sunday afternoon.
It is understood the man, aged in his 40s, jumped off the dam wall and attempted to surface but was swept away by a strong current.
His body was located in the water shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The grim discovery comes after police, SES, swift water rescue teams and aerial crews searched for the missing man.
The search was suspended on Sunday night and resumed at 6am on Monday, with police divers also called in to help.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Authorities have since pleaded with locals to leave the search to emergency services.
