Two teenagers have died after an accident at a waterfall on the Sunshine Coast.
A 17-year-old girl fell from a waterfall at Queensland’s Wappa Falls about 2.30pm on Sunday and a 17-year-old boy jumped into the water to help her when she failed to surface, emergency services said.
Police said the boy, an acquaintance of the girl, also disappeared.
A search and rescue operation found the girl’s body around 3:30 p.m. and divers recovered the boy’s body around 7:30 p.m.
Wappa Falls remains closed amid a police investigation and officers were ready to prepare reports for the coroner on both teens.
Acting Queensland Police Inspector John Mahoney told Nine News the girl had “got into trouble”.
“A friend of the 17-year-old, a man, stepped in to try to help,” he said.
“The body of the 17-year-old woman was located a short distance from Wappa Falls this afternoon.”
Access to Wappa Falls has been closed after two teenagers died after falling into the water.

Specialist police divers and the fast-moving Fire and Rescue water rescue team scoured the waterways in search of the pair on Sunday afternoon.
