Octopus Terrance captivated the internet when he unexpectedly gave birth to 50 babies.
But the Oklahoma family that took her in has now revealed that she is nearing the end of her short life.
Speaking to DailyMail.com after his TikTok videos went viral, Cameron Clifford revealed that Terrance is now “senescent.”
‘She is definitely in the last days of her life, but she is still alive. He’s definitely senescent,” Clifford said, referring to the biological decline that occurs with age.
When the Clifford family first brought Terrance home, they prepared their house to house just one octopus.
The family, who initially bought Terrance for their nine-year-old son, initially believed it was a male octopus. However, they were stunned when they learned that she was female and that she laid 50 eggs earlier this year.
Another twist came when the eggs began to hatch, despite the initial belief that they were unfertilized.
Now, the family is relocating the young people to educational institutes to “live out their days.”
“When the babies were born, there was a whole new wave of charm and also fear of not being good caregivers,” Clifford explained.
The family, who initially bought Terrance for their nine-year-old son, were convinced he was a male octopus.
They were stunned to discover that Terrance was actually female, and the fifty eggs she laid earlier this year began to hatch.
‘I don’t want to perpetuate the idea that my life has been turned upside down and my bank account is empty because it’s not true. It has been a wonderful experience,’ he stated.
“If I could push (care) in a direction of positive impact, then I think it would be an incredible experience,” he said.
‘They deserve it. I’m happy with minimal media exposure in my life currently.’
The family has worked hard to ensure the baby octopuses go to good homes.
‘We have interesting things coming up. “Babies have a place in legitimate educational settings, which is great.”
They became an internet sensation after sharing their story with the world.
The unique story spread throughout the world, reaching educational and research groups everywhere.
Now, the Clifford family is raising money for some of the organizations.
They are also voting on what the octopus squad should be called.
In a new video on Tuesday, Clifford asked his followers to vote on the name. Among the options is the octo-posse.
She also shared a link to the family’s fundraising effort, fueled by the sale of Terrance-themed merchandise.
