- Broc Dawson, 17, died in a car accident
A heartbroken mother has remembered her teenage son as a “kind and generous soul” who dreamed of becoming a pilot before he tragically died in a horrific crash.
Broc Dawson, 17, was driving along Aura Boulevard in Bells Creek on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast at 1.15am on Saturday when his Toyota Corolla was hit by a motorcycle that failed to give way at an intersection.
Broc and the motorcyclist, a 32-year-old Morayfield man, died at the scene, while the teenager’s passenger, aged 16, was rushed to hospital with minor injuries.
Krystn Dawson said her son had recently gotten his P plates and was “really excited” to be able to go out with his friends without her by his side.
She said her son was driving his best friend home when a “jerk” going “at ridiculous speeds ran a red light” and “took me away from my son forever.”
“My son was a kind and generous soul who had his whole life ahead of him,” she wrote on Facebook.

‘He touched the hearts of many people in the short time he was with us… He wanted to be a pilot and was on his way to achieving it.
‘You will never fully understand what we are going through unless you have been in this situation yourself.
‘Please spend time with your loved ones, tell them how much they mean to you before you never have the chance to do so again.’
Tributes have poured in online for Broc, a Caloundra Christian College student, who has been remembered as a “good friend” who loved mountain biking.
A makeshift shrine has been set up at the crash site and friends have left flowers and candles in Broc’s memory.

Loved ones have erected a memorial for the teenager at the crash site.
“I will miss you forever, Broc,” one friend wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of more than a dozen of his friends gathered at the memorial site.
“I still don’t feel real, rest easy up there,” said another friend.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe Created to help Broc’s devastated family, the project has raised $20,766 of its $60,000 fundraiser since its launch on Sunday.
Cooper Martin, a family friend and organizer, said donations will help cover costs associated with Broc’s funeral and “any related expenses” to ensure the teen gets the send-off he deserves.
Queensland Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed was a factor.
Anyone with images of the motorcycle before the accident is urged to contact police.
