- Thang Khat Su, 3, died instantly
- The paramedics couldn’t save him
A three-year-old boy died after being hit by a car outside a church around 7pm on Saturday evening.
Thang Khat Sun was killed when he was struck in the car park of New Hope Baptist Church in the Melbourne suburb of Blackburn North, 17km east of the CBD.
He and his family had just arrived for the Khuado Pawi cultural festival organized by members of the Zomi ethnic group, originally from the mountain towns of northwest Myanmar.
Emergency services were immediately called, but they were unable to save the little boy’s life.
Melbourne Zomi community secretary Thang Zuisang told the Herald Sun it was the worst tragedy their community had experienced in their adopted country.

He said the festival site, at the church, was very busy.
“No one really knows what happened, it was really sudden, everyone is in shock, it’s really sad. The worst tragedy we have in the community here.
“To be honest, even though we continued (the festival), no one was in a good mood to celebrate this festival that day.”
