SHERMAN, Texas (KXII/Gray News) – A heartbreaking incident occurred Wednesday when three-year-old twin girls drowned in the pool of an apartment complex in Sherman, Texas. The tragedy left the community in shock and investigators searching for answers.
The Sherman Police Department EMS responders were called to the Ridgeview Apartments on West Washington Street after the twins were discovered unconscious in the pool where they lived with their parents. Witness Carrie Curry, a resident of the complex, described the tragic scene as it unfolded. “It’s a sad time,” Curry said. “It’s very sad and it’s a prayerful time. We need to pray for our children. We really do, take care of your babies.”
Curry recounted the urgency with which the apartment complex staff responded. “I was walking out of my apartment and I saw the commotion with the ambulance and the fire trucks and stuff,” he explained. “So I went in behind the police car and I saw everyone in the pool. When I looked over there, the maintenance man was standing there. He was soaking wet.” CBS News reported.
According to Sherman Police Department Administrative Lt. Kevin Garbacik, maintenance personnel discovered the children in the pool and immediately attempted to save them. “Somehow, two young children managed to get into the pool,” Garbacik said. “Maintenance personnel found them in the pool. They were already underwater. Maintenance personnel were able to get them out and begin recovery efforts with them.”
Despite their efforts, it was already too late to save the twins. “At this point, both children have already passed away. They did not survive,” Garbacik added sadly.
The incident has raised questions about how the children ended up in the pool and where their parents were at the time. Garbacik stressed the importance of constant vigilance, noting that children can quickly find themselves in dangerous situations.
Curry echoed this sentiment and urged parents to always keep an eye on their children. “Parents, if you have children, keep an eye on your children, always know where they are, whether inside or outside the house,” she pleaded. “Take care of your babies. They are our future.”
As the community grieves, the Sherman Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
