A New Zealand rugby club is in shock after young player Brook Wilson suffered a medical problem and died while warming up for a football match.

The popular 18-year-old died suddenly on November 5 while preparing to take the field at Woodend Rugby Club in North Canterbury.

The tragedy has shocked the local community, which is offering support to the Wilson family.

A local quiz team that Brook was part of organized an event in his honor and Dylan Schaare, a friend of Brook’s, said the quiz will be dedicated to him and his heartbroken family.

Woodend Rugby Club president Mark Paterson posted a message on social media about the pain felt by club members.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Brook’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Paterson said.

Brook’s father, Tony, said the family has been overwhelmed by the support they have received.

“We’re just amazed by the community spirit and the people who are willing to help,” he said. Stuff.

“I can’t believe how popular he was.”

Scott Liddell, interim principal at Kaiapoi High School, also paid tribute to Brook.

“Brook is fondly remembered by our staff and students as someone who lived life to the fullest and a child who had a great group of very loyal peers who rallied together during these difficult times,” Liddell said.

“We extend our solidarity to Brook’s whānau (family) at this time that took him away from the bright future ahead.”

The teenager’s funeral will be held on Thursday in Rangiora.
