A young Western Australian mother tragically collapsed in her kitchen and died three days after giving birth to her second child.

Claire Howlett, 33, from Two Rocks, north of Perth, and her husband Glen had Gibson on March 22, a younger brother to their two-year-old daughter Laine.

Howlett’s stepfather Robert Crain, who recently moved to WA to be closer to family, said he and his partner Vicki were told Howlett sadly died about an hour after collapsing on March 25.

“I can’t even imagine what Glen is going through… he is now in the unenviable position of raising two very young children alone and grieving the loss of his wife,” Mr Crain said.

He added that he believes he owes his life to Ms Howlett after she encouraged him to move to WA, where doctors found and successfully removed small bowel cancer.

‘Doctors in New South Wales would not have ordered that blood test. “My doctor here in WA knew exactly what he was doing,” he said.

“However, the person I have to thank the most is Claire.”

Mr. Crain has launched a GoFundMe to help Mr Howlett, who was a baker at Woolworths for 10 years before recently changing jobs to become a train driver.

“About a month ago he started working there as a driver after months of training.”

‘This is a proud man. He won’t accept anything unless he earns it, but he himself now needs all the help he can get.

Mrs Howlett, as well as being a school teacher and mother, was also a businesswoman who ran the House Of Primrose wedding florist business and a second-hand baby clothing business.

Friends, colleagues and clients took to social media to pay tribute to the popular young mother.

The couple share two children, Laine and Gibson, and Howlett now faces the daunting task of raising the young family alone.
