A police operation has caused chaos for commuters in western Sydney, with several lanes of the busy M4 motorway closed.
All westbound and eastbound lanes of the highway in Merrylands are closed between Burnett Street and Cumberland Highway.
Motorists have been told to avoid the area and expect delays on Friday morning.
The Great Western Highway can be used as an alternative.
Police have said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
