A woman who claimed to earn up to $200,000 a year as a traffic controller has sparked a furious debate on social media.

Queensland woman Suzie Ross revealed her incredible income after a street interviewer asked her about her job.

“I do traffic control and I make between $140,000 and $200,000 a year,” he said.

Rose said the job had several overtime benefits that helped her earn the large sum and said she worked different shifts as part of the job.

“The penalties and charges are really good,” he explained.

“We are usually the first to arrive at work and the last (to leave), we may be on the morning shift or I may be on the night shift this week.”

The mother said one of the challenges of working as a traffic controller was “ignorance” about what workers do on the job.

“A young man is not asked once what he does when he approaches the construction sites,” he said.

‘I think there should be more awareness because it is a high-risk job.’

The interview was uploaded to TikTok by Getahead, an app that connects job seekers with job opportunities in Australia.

A fierce debate quickly broke out in the comments about the eye-watering salary.

“I’ve owned a traffic control company in Sydney for 12 years and I’m sure it doesn’t make that much money,” said one user.

‘It is between 39,000 and 80,000, depending on experience. But traffic control is not a bed of roses. They have their favorites and you will be lucky to get between 5 and 40 hours (of work) a week,” commented another.

“I have been a traffic controller for 2 years while studying, even working 12-16 hours a day, the most I have earned is 88,000 in a financial year.”

Other essential workers said they did not earn as much as Rose.

“I’m a doctor with 10 years of experience, yet this person makes more than me after a 20-hour training course,” said one user.

Some chimed in saying that many traffic controllers are paid high hourly rates, especially when they work at night.

‘It is not a joke. “Right now it costs over $90 an hour to control light rail traffic on the Gold Coast,” one of them said.

Rose said training courses for traffic controllers are fairly simple and workers participate in a 20-hour test to see if they like the job or not.

She added that it has become easier for women to enter the construction industry.

According to leading employment website Seek, traffic controllers earn an average annual salary of between $55,000 and $75,000.

The CFMEU revealed last month that a new labor agreement will be signed that would give construction workers a five per cent pay rise.

The agreement that the construction union has not yet made official would allow workers and traffic controllers to earn $2,000 a week during a three-year agreement, according to reports from the Herald of the sun.

Young stop sign holders could earn up to $120,000 for working 36 hours a week on construction sites.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Ms Rose for comment.
