The waters of Trafalgar Square’s fountains have been painted red by activists who claim the coronavirus crisis could have been averted by going vegan.
Animal Rebellion painted the water a blood red when they called for an end to the “climate-destroying and exploitative industries” they said caused the pandemic.
Protesters wore placards that read “the government has blood on their hands” as they waded knee-high into the red waters today.
Photos show a female activist standing knee high in the red water, wearing a face mask and holding a pink sign.
She was then approached by Metropolitan Police officers, who talked her out of the fountains before escorting her.

Animal Rebellion claimed responsibility for the waters dying off the fountains of Trafalgar Square
Animal Rebellion tweeted, ‘Animal Rebellion has now painted Trafalgar Square fountains red, symbolizing the blood owned by the British government.
“We are here today to demand that the government prevent future pandemics by ending livestock farming and moving to a plant-based food system.
“This crisis could have been prevented. Science tells us that 3 out of 4 new infectious diseases come from animals.
“The British government must protect the people, not support the climate-destructive and exploitative industries.”
