A “beautiful” eight-year-old boy died in a car crash just four days after his mother died of cancer.
Harley Smith and her father died at the scene when the car they were traveling in collided with a truck on a country road near Trafalgar, in southeast Victoria, on Sunday at 5:20 p.m.
The truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The boy’s mother, Amy Galea, died four days earlier due to stage four cancer, according to family friend April Damschke.

Mrs. Damschke uttered a GoFundMe to raise money for his funeral, and the double tragedy left his family “defenseless.”
“Amy Galea was diagnosed with stage four cancer at the age of 39, and passed away just four weeks later,” Damschke said.
“Amy lost the battle and gained her wings, but just four days after Amy’s death, her seven-year-old son, Harley, was tragically killed in a car accident in Trafalgar.”

Victoria Police said the two victims have not yet been formally identified and they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
