A TikToker accused Trader Joe’s of deliberately charging fees for bags despite using her own reusable bags for shopping.
Callie, from California, believes the popular supermarket chain regularly carries out scams in an attempt to squeeze a few extra cents out of customers.
In a minute-long video posted to TikTok, Callie suggests that the bag fees, which are the last item listed on her receipt, are a deliberate ploy by Trader Joe’s to extract money from its customers.
Callie shares how she even brought her own reusable bags from Trader Joe’s to avoid having to pay that fee, but two $0.10 charges were still added to her bill.

The TikToker suggests that the bag fees, which are the last item listed on her receipt, are a deliberate ploy by Trader Joe’s to squeeze extra money out of its customers.
“I thought I was being petty and I was going to talk myself out of doing this, but no, I know it’s happening to a lot of people,” Callie began in the video that has been viewed more than 8,000 times.
“Do you see those baggage fees? I know they’re only 10 cents, but how many times a week do I get charged a baggage fee?” she asks.
‘Trader Joes, I love you, but… if you’re like me and you leave the receipt in the bag… I don’t always look at the receipt, but what is that? And what am I going to do about it?’
Those commenting online seemed sympathetic to her plight.
“If you bring your own luggage, you shouldn’t be charged for it,” one user wrote.
“Bags are the highest-profit item in a grocery store,” another commenter explained.

Callie said she will bring the matter to the attention of her store bosses.
“I’ll talk to the manager and kindly suggest using an auto-responder at the cashier and move on. Hopefully, I’ll get a gift card, but imagine how much extra money they make per day by doing that?”
“Oh no! I’m checking my receipt, in fact, I’m going to make sure at the register to let them know not to charge me the baggage fee, because I always carry my own luggage,” exclaimed another outraged customer.
One commenter even did some math: ‘If someone travels 5 times a month, that’s $12 a year… ONE PERSON… think about HOW MUCH MONEY THAT ADDS UP FOR THEM in the US per year.’
