From reusing plastic bags to turning off the lights, many people are trying to do their part to care for the environment.

But when it comes to getting home after a night out, not many of us would think about the environmental impact of our trip.

Now, Uber users will see a second rating in the app along with their passengers’ rating.

This second rating reveals your emissions savings: how much CO2 your trips have produced over time.

“Just as we popularized passenger ratings in an effort to promote respectful behavior during Uber rides, we are excited to launch the Emissions Saver feature to celebrate its impact and encourage greener choices when using Uber,” said Dara Khosrowshahi , CEO of Uber.

Uber users will now have two user ratings: one given to them by drivers and a second (pictured) that will calculate how much CO2 they have saved by choosing electric vehicles.

Since 2020, Uber has offered Uber Green, which allows users to book a ride in an electric or hybrid car at no additional cost.

When choosing an Uber Green, the app estimates how much CO2 could have been produced on the same trip in an UberX or Uber Comfort.

Every time you choose to ride an Uber Green, you will now receive a notification telling you how much CO2 your choice saved.

The app will also track your total savings over time; giving each user an ‘Emission Savings’ rating.

To view your emissions savings, simply head to the “Account” section of the mobile app and tap “Estimated CO2 Savings” to see a breakdown of your environmental impact.

Users will also be able to view their total carbon savings as equivalent to gallons of gasoline consumed, miles driven, or square feet of forest converted to cropland.

The new option will estimate how much CO2 was saved by comparing the potential emissions of an UberX or Uber Comfort.

Users can also see their emissions savings in the equivalent of liters of gasoline consumed or waste recycled.

After each user, users will receive a notification telling them how many CO2 emissions were avoided. Users will also be able to see a breakdown of their overall savings in the “Estimated CO2 Savings” section.

Uber says this latest feature is designed to encourage users to choose electric vehicles.

“We are on a mission to make it easier for our passengers to adopt a low-emission lifestyle,” Khosrowshahi said.

Uber says its own research suggests UK users are concerned about the impacts of car emissions on public health and climate change.

According to Uber, 85 percent of users surveyed said they were concerned about the impact of air pollution in London on health.

A further 73 per cent of Londoners said they were more worried about the impact of climate change since 2020.

Uber will also offer incentives to drivers to switch to electric or hybrid vehicles.

According to Uber, drivers who take Uber Green trips earn 10 percent more on trips than those who drive an UberX.

Uber had previously partnered with electric vehicle maker Arrival to produce a fleet of electric cars for Europe.

However, the project never came to fruition after Arrival halted development of the vehicle.

The company says it plans to include more products in emissions savings calculations in the future.

This could include ‘all-electric autonomous rides’, rides with UberX Share, as well as rides on electric bikes and scooters booked through Uber.

The company did not suggest that the emissions-saving feature would come to Uber Eats at some point in the future.

However, the company has committed to having all Uber Eats delivery drivers use zero-emission vehicles by 2040.
