Tottenham have yet to act on their interest in signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer, according to reports.

The playmaker is available for a free transfer after his contract with Brentford expires on June 30.

Eriksen impressed the Bees throughout the second half of the season on his return to football and is said to have sparked interest from Manchester United and Tottenham, while Brentford is believed to want to keep their star.

He has been linked with a return to his former side and Tottenham were in touch with Eriksen’s camp a few weeks ago about a possible return, according to football.london

However, Antonio Conte’s side appears to be moving away from the Dane as they have reportedly failed to respond to their interest.

The Spurs previously tried to re-sign the midfielder and inquired about an Inter Milan loan deal as he struggled to cement a Serie A starting spot.

Tottenham boss Conte is also said to have admired Eriksen since their time together at Inter, after the manager used him in almost every game from February 2021 on their way to winning the Serie A title.

The Italian also expressed his desire to bring Eriksen back to north London for the entire season.

“It would certainly be a fantastic opportunity to work with Christian again,” he said. “I enjoyed the time we spent together at Inter Milan, despite the fact that he didn’t play with me regularly the first time, but once I understood what I wanted from him, he played.

‘We won a title together, the competition in Italy. When you have a player like that, a great player, a good man, I think any manager, any coach would love to work with them.”

It is alleged that football director Fabio Patrici also tried a number of times to sign Eriksen during his time at Juventus.

Tottenham also appeared to have received a boost in the race for Eriksen amid reported interest from United, Everton, Newcastle, Leicester, West Ham, Brentford, Ajax and an undisclosed LaLiga side.

With his family based in London, it has been argued that Eriksen would rather stay in the capital this summer.

However, the Spurs appear to be passing up the opportunity as the club would downplay ties to their former star.

The player is currently on holiday with his family after his international service with Denmark and it is believed he has not yet decided on his destination for next season.
