Tottenham should have been awarded a penalty moments before Arsenal scored their second goal, Michael Dawson believes.
Dejan Kulusevski tripped and fell after being clipped by Leandro Trossard before James Maddison fell under a challenge from Declan Rice.
Nothing was given and Arsenal counterattacked brutally, with Bukayo Saka cutting inside Ben Davies to put the visitors 2-0 up.
Dawson believes Kulusevski’s fall should have resulted in a penalty, but that the striker was “too honest” in trying to stay on his feet.
‘Big shout. He doesn’t see it coming. It’s a penalty for me,” former Spurs player Dawson told Sky Sports.
Dejan Kulusevski should have been awarded a penalty when he was clipped by Leandro Trossard, believes Michael Dawson
‘If he falls immediately (it would have been a penalty). I think it’s the fact that he takes two or three steps and tries to be honest and stay on his feet, whether he believes it was himself who cut him, it’s Trossard’s initial contact that instigates him.’
After Kulusevski went down, the ball rolled to Maddison and he fell after a stern challenge from Rice, but Dawson doesn’t believe it was a foul.
It was a crucial moment in the first half, which ended with Arsenal winning 3-0 at Spurs for the first time since 1959.
James Maddison was also challenged by Declan Rice, but Dawson dismissed this.
Dawson felt that Kulusevski was “too honest” in trying to stay on his feet instead of immediately falling.
