Mauricio Pochettino WANTS to return to Tottenham after holding talks with his old club and being disappointed with the way PSG is being run, but Daniel Levy must convince his old manager to DRAWN to secure a Spurs comeback .
- Mauricio Pochettino has ‘opened talks’ with Tottenham about a sensational return
- The Argentinian only said goodbye to the club in North London two years ago
- He took the lead at Paris Saint-Germain this year, but lost the Ligue 1 title
Tottenham have explored the possibility of bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to the club.
Spurs leaders have discussed the prospect of appointing the Argentinian as their new head coach – just 19 months after he was fired.
Every move for Pochettino will likely be complicated as his current club Paris Saint-Germain has no plans to let him leave.
Mauricio Pochettino could count on a sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer
It also appeared on Thursday that the South American is high on Real Madrid’s list to replace Zinedine Zidane.
It means that Pochettino will likely have to resign from a job he only had six months to take on the vacant Spurs post.
But there are certain figures at Tottenham – who are also interested in former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte – who want the club to speed up to seal Pochettino’s return.
Pochettino was sacked by Daniel Levy in 2019 after a five-year stint with the club that saw them compete in two Premier League title races and reach the Champions League final.
The Argentinian has failed to establish himself in Paris Saint-Germain since taking charge in January
He took the lead at PSG in January, replacing current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who took his first major trophy as a manager after winning the Coupe de France.
However, he failed to secure the Ligue 1 title, with Lille securing the French championship on the last day of the season, and the Argentinian is reportedly unhappy with the French club’s inner workings.
Much of Pochettino’s thinking is due to the lack of control he has at PSG – something his predecessor Tuchel also struggled with.
They also report that players are aware of the situation and excited about the prospect of the 49-year-old’s return. Paddy Power has now stopped taking bets on his return to his old club.
Well the French television channel TF1 emphasize that while Pochettino is ‘disappointed’ in some aspects of life in Paris, PSG has no intention of letting him go, meaning he will have to step down from the Ligue 1 club.
Tottenham are looking for a new coach after Jose Mourinho said goodbye in April
Spurs have been without a head coach since April after saying goodbye to Jose Mourinho.
Ryan Mason had stepped in on an interim basis to lead the team through the final stages of the season and secure a place in the Europa Conference League on the final day of the Premier League season.
Levy has previously made his decision to assist Pochettino, admitting that it was the worst decision he had ever made in football.
Spurs are currently trying to convince attacker Harry Kane to stay with the football club. The English striker has made noises in recent interviews about winning trophies, something he has not done with Spurs so far.
Clearly, the Tottenham hierarchy was outraged by Kane’s recent public comments, but Pochettino’s return could be a way to re-establish club-player relations.
