‘No one with working eyes is going to buy that!’: Tottenham fans furious as Nike release a bright, multicolored away strip for the 2021-22 season, as some call it the ‘worst kit ever, possibly in all of football ever’

  • The bizarre design has caused a lot of discussion among the fans
  • A variety of colors are mixed together in the new shirt designed by Nike
  • Fans expressed their opinion and not all opinions were positive

Tottenham fans have not been too kind to their team’s new away shirt, which was officially launched on Thursday.

Ahead of the upcoming campaign, kitmakers Nike have decked out the Spurs in a rather garish multicolored offering, which features a swirl of colors on a black base.

The team will wear the shirt during their outings away from north London, in new manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s first season at the club.

Still, many fans have become angry with the design and have wasted little time making their views known online.

One supporter wrote on Twitter: ‘Who at Tottenham actually signed that kit?! Nobody is going to buy that with working eyes?!’

Another added: ‘So it wasn’t a joke. Worst kit ever, possibly in all of football ever.’

Rival fans of fellow club Arsenal in north London also took the opportunity to poke fun at the suggestion that their enemies’ new kit looks like it’s been dragged through an oil slick.

As the digs poured in, even Specsavers joined in. The eyewear retailer responded to Spurs via their official account, adding their well-known slogan ‘should’ve’ [gone to Specsavers]’ when the Premier League club had asked fans to respond in one word.

While Tottenham continued to promote the new shirt online, some supporters were drawn to the extravagant design. Or at least the thought process behind it.

Another fan commented: ‘Smart marketing, purists get a plain traditional home kit and kids, global fans get something different and exciting. I bet they sell more shirts than they have in years. Something for everyone and certainly a topic of conversation.’

Spurs are hoping one man to wear the shirt next season is talisman Harry Kane, who gave all the signs he wanted to leave the club before Euro 2020.

Kane has spoken openly about his desire to go and compete for trophies consistently, and as a result is closely linked to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Last week, new boss Santo stopped talking about Kane leaving the club this summer, insisting during his first press conference as Spurs manager: “Harry is our player, period. You don’t have to talk about anything else.’

The Portuguese has not yet spoken to the England captain since he took over, but with chairman Daniel Levy adamant Kane not for sale – and football director Fabio Paratici eager to rebuild a team involving the attacker – the new boss is confident that Kane will be. committed to the cause.

“Harry is one of the best players in the world, that says it all,” he added.

‘I have no doubts in my head. What I wish is that Harry recovers well, rests well and when he arrives he will feel that each of us has to put in the effort to get better.

‘We are very ambitious people and we want to do it right, and I have no doubt about that.’
