Tottenham expects a step ahead of Lille center-back Sven Botman, but reports say they will face a daunting task to win the race for his signature.
After starring in Ligue 1 at the heart of Lille’s defense, Botman has also piqued the interest of reigning Premier League champions Liverpool and current Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
But according to France football, Spurs hopes to convince the £ 40m defender to move to North London.

Earlier there were suggestions that Tottenham had already convinced the Dutchman and his representatives to move to London, but this is not the case.
And Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho knows he will face a difficult task of driving Botman out of France, while European giants Liverpool and Inter are also in pursuit.
Jurgen Klopp’s squad were reportedly interested in the 21-year-old during the January transfer window as they wanted to resolve their injury crisis in the back, but Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies were signed instead.
Botman has become one of the most promising center-backs in Europe in Lille, after having previously spent 11 years at Ajax.

Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan side are also competing for the Dutch center-back’s signature
Botman sealed a £ 7.8 million move to Lille in the summer of 2020 by signing a five-year contract.
And the naturally left-footed center-back has since made an impression in France, with Lille topping Ligue 1 with a three-point lead over second-place Paris Saint-Germain.
Lille has conceded just 16 goals in 26 league matches this season and Botman has played an integral role in helping his side keep 13 clean sheets. According to WhoScored.com, no other center in the top five in Europe has kept its sheets clean.
But to be covered by the Netherlands it seems only a matter of time until Botman – who stands 6ft 4in and is excellent in the air, but also confident on the ball and a fine tackler – earns senior international awards after excelling at Lille. .
Former Premier League center-back Jose Fonte, who has played for Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham, praised the exciting talent of his Lille team-mates.

“He is a top player,” said Fonte talkSPORT‘I must say I was surprised when he first arrived. I was not expecting this level of quality, I was expecting a youngster with potential, but the man is very calm – he is mature for his age.
“He’s a defender, and by that I mean he likes to defend. He likes to play simple, he’s strong, he’s tall, he wins his duels, he doesn’t complicate the game, he’s good on the ball, left-footed.
‘He’s been doing extremely well since he arrived, so yeah, no wonder there is interest in him. It doesn’t surprise me [the links to Liverpool], not at all.
“If you analyze his performance this year, especially against the top teams we’ve played, you can be sure that he can play at the highest level.”
