Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been in the running for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet as they seek to get the player on loan for next season.
according to ESPNVia Mundo Deportivo, Spurs are proposing to pay the Frenchman’s full wages if he is loaned out, as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his defense ahead of a Champions League campaign.
Lenglet’s place at Barca is increasingly threatened with the imminent arrival of Andreas Christensen, and as the club believe it is a big transfer for Jules Kunde, they will want to make room on their wage bill.
Clement Lenglet joined Barcelona in 2018 for £32million but could leave the club this summer
Spanish outlet Sport report that the Frenchman is not part of Barca boss Xavi’s plans and is free to leave.
As with so many of the players Barcelona has signed in recent years, the player would have wages that would be a stumbling block to a permanent move from the club.
The Spanish publication claims the French international was initially reluctant to leave the club, for reasons not entirely clear, but in recent days the idea is said to have grown.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte has already made three summer purchases this transfer window
Lenglet made just 27 appearances in all competitions last season and his playing time is expected to shrink further as the club makes an offer for Kunde.
It is claimed that Barcelona ‘basically struck a deal’ with their LaLiga rivals that would see them pay £51million and send a player in the opposite direction.
Barcelona are reportedly trying to get US international Sergino Dest involved in the deal, who has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe this summer.
Spurs had been linked with a transfer for Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni, but the player is likely to demand a higher fee than the North London side are willing to pay, and Lenglet could offer a cheaper alternative.

The 23-year-old Italy international is considered a top target by Spurs and he is a player Conte knows from his time at Inter Milan.
Bastoni was expected to fill in on the left of the three-man defence, with Dier in the middle and Romero on the right.
The Spurs have been one of the busier Premier League clubs this summer and have already struck deals for midfielder Yves Bissouma, former Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and veteran Inter winger Ivan Perisic.
