Conviction appeal: Tory Lanez, who appeared in Los Angeles in December, filed court documents Wednesday to appeal his conviction after a jury found him guilty in December of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

A Los Angeles jury last December found Lanez guilty of three counts in the 2020 shooting that left hip-hop star Megan, 28, wounded by bullet fragments in her feet.
Canadian rapper, real name Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Jurors also agreed that there were aggravating factors in the attack, which means Lenz could face up to 22 years in prison and deportation when he is sentenced next month.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pitt, testified during the trial that Lanez put a gun to the back of her feet and yelled for her to dance as she drove away from an SUV they were riding in the Hollywood Hills in the summer of 2020. She said the two got into a dispute that became especially heated when she began insulting his music.
She needed surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.
Lenz began releasing mixtapes in 2009 and has seen a steady rise in popularity, moving onto albums for major labels. His last two have reached the top ten on the Billboard charts.
Megan Thee Stallion was already a major rising star at the time of shooting, and her fame has grown ever since.
She won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2021, hit the Billboard Hot 100 number one with her own song Savage, featuring Beyoncé, and as a guest on Cardi B song WAP.
