Tony Armstrong and Rona Glynn-McDonald got their romance off to a flying start late last year.

But Rona admitted she was nervous about letting the world know she had landed the man known as “Australia’s husband.”

The couple gives a joint interview to this week’s issue of Star Magazineas well as starring in a stunning cover shoot together, with Rona airing her initial concerns.

“I was very nervous before the ceremony. Considering that people refer to Tony as ‘Australia’s husband’ or ‘everyone’s boyfriend’, I was prepared for death threats,” the musician told the publication.

“I was willing to break hearts. We talked about it for months and months and months and it just seemed like the right thing to do,” she added.

Fortunately, Rona said, “the positive response was overwhelming.”

“I think immediately, like half an hour later, some people wrote articles saying I had great hair. I’d never thought of myself as a person with great hair, but they gave me slogans and said really nice things to me,” she said.

DJ Rona joked that the ABC News Breakfast sports presenter, 34, was “stalking” her, before clarifying that they had been socialising in the same circles.

Rona said they realized they had almost crossed paths on several occasions before they finally met at one of Rona’s concerts and quickly hit it off.

Former AFL star Tony gushed about their romance: “It’s been great, honestly, it’s been amazing.”

Rona also confessed that she was unaware of Tony’s fame and public profile before they met and only became aware of it when other people told her about his career.

She confessed: ‘I saw your Instagram and I think a couple of people had mentioned your name, and I thought, ‘Who? Tony who?’ I’m not usually up to watch Tony’s 6am show (ABC News Breakfast).’

The couple has been going strong since officially debuting their romance on Instagram in November last year after secretly dating for “a while.”

“I was very nervous before the performance. Considering that people refer to Tony as ‘Australia’s husband’ or ‘everyone’s boyfriend’, I was prepared for death threats,” says the musician.

Just weeks after going public, they marked a huge milestone in their relationship and Tony introduced Rona to his beloved mother over Christmas.

On Christmas Day, she shared a heartwarming photo on Instagram of Rona sharing a hug with her mother Margaret as they spent the festive period together.

“Full hearts, can’t miss,” Tony captioned the photo, showing how serious their relationship is getting.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia at the 2023 TikTok Awards, Tony revealed that things have gotten serious between the pair and said he’s happy that their fans have accepted the relationship.

“It’s good for people to know now,” Tony said. “We’ve been together for a while. I’m happy. (Life) has been good lately.”

Rona is a talented Kaytetye woman who grew up in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) in Arrernte County.

“I was ready to break hearts. We talked about it for months and months and months and it just felt right,” she added.

As well as being a musician, he works primarily with First Nations organisations to develop and advise on economic systems that support Indigenous Australians.

Rona serves as the Founding Executive Director of Common Ground and Director of First Nations Futures, and was also the First Nations Director at YLab.

Throughout her successful career, the Central Australian also worked in policy at the Central Land Council.

In addition to her numerous accolades, Rona also enjoys working as an electronic music producer and DJ under the name RONA.

According to his website, he “blends country and local soundscapes with synths and melodies packed with emotional impact.”

He has played Falls Festival and supported Cut Copy and Rufus Du Sol on tour, and recently completed a residency with TripleJ.
