Tony Abbott again backed Warringah despite some opposition

Former prime minister Tony Abbott has again been preselected for the seat of Warringah.

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been endorsed as the liberal candidate for the electorate of the North Sydney beaches of Warringah after an overnight branch meeting.

He remained unopposed and was elected despite the grunts of a vocal minority of members.

The result comes three years after the 2015 leadership spill when Malcolm Turnbull ousted Abbott as prime minister.

Mr. Abbott, who has occupied the Warringah seat since 1994, does not seem to be making plans to leave politics in the short term.

He is the only former prime minister who remains in the current parliament after losing leadership.

In a 2GB interview, Mr. Abbott told Alan Jones that he thought Scott Morrison had "had a very good start."

"After a very difficult period with enough self-inflicted injuries, we are now back on the right track," he said.
