- The office ruled out risk of tsunami in Australia
A 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck Tonga on Monday morning.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 112 kilometers and the epicenter was 70 kilometers northwest of Fangale’ounga, the USGS reported.
The tremor was recorded around 9:30 local time and Tongan authorities urged locals to head to higher ground.
The Bureau of Meteorology has said there is no tsunami risk for Australia.
