TOMMY SPEED: I’m proud of my dad for playing at the highest level and leading Wales
TOMMY SPEED: As a player and manager I am proud of my father for having played at the highest level for 20 years and running his country…I always smile when I look at the tackles he did!
I always remember my father laughing and smiling. Vacation always comes to mind, we would go on the best family vacations. I rarely, if ever, remember the bad times.
I can remember going on a ride called ‘The Tower of Terror’ at Disneyland with my dad. He laughed so hard at how scared I was and that I didn’t want to admit it. I was only three then.
And family barbecues where my dad always took out his guitar after a few beers and we all sang along.
As a player and manager I am proud of my father, who played at the highest level for 20 years and then led his national team.
I always watch videos of his goals and old matches. I love looking at his old games and just seeing some of the tackles he used. I always have to laugh about it.
I always remember my dad laughing and smiling – I’m so proud of what he accomplished in football

When he was manager at Sheffield United and then Wales it was different than when he was a player because I could see the pressure he was under and how it affected him at home. But some moments with Wales were brilliant, such good times.
It has not been easy, but we will get there, I will always miss my father. After I went to college in America, I felt it was a huge step forward for me because it puts a lot of things in perspective.
A vast majority of people have similar problems, even friends back home that I didn’t know about. It’s hard to move on, but you have to. Good friends and family make moving forward and also life much easier, creating new memories.
Looking back at his old games and seeing some of his tackles always makes me smile
It was only when I got older that I realized how strong my mother is and I am so proud of her. Not only because of what she went through, but also because of the person she is and the people she has allowed me and Ed to be, the most positive and loving person in my life.
I couldn’t have been the man I am today and lived such a good life if it weren’t for my mother.
It always makes me feel good when I hear other people speak kind words about my father, and the different ways he influenced people’s lives and careers, it’s nice to see interviews of people talking about my father.
