‘There was only one name for our baby girl’: Tommy Fury says Molly-Mae Hague had her heart set on Bambi while at Love Island villa, as boxer reveals his special significance

They surprised fans with the unconventional name for their first child, but Tommy Fury says his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague first suggested it years before she got pregnant.

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Bambi, in January, three and a half years after meeting and falling in love at the Love Island villa.

And Tommy, 23, says his name, synonymous with Disney’s animated stag, has been close to Molly-Mae’s heart since childhood and was initially suggested while they were appearing on the ITV2 show in 2019.

“It’s an incredible story to be honest,” she explained during an appearance on Thursday’s edition of Loose Women.

“We talked about it in the villa and we talked more about the children when we left. There was only one name for our baby girl, and that was Bambi.

“When Molly was young, she just wanted to name her doll the one thing, and that was Bambi, so she was never going to be that guy who says no, and I love the name anyway.”

He added: ‘Being a father, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Forget boxing. Waking up every day and seeing his handsome face…you can’t be in a bad mood.’

The professional boxer was making one of his first television appearances since he beat nemesis Jake Paul on points in Saudi Arabia nearly a fortnight ago, a fight that netted him £3.7m.

And he admits the struggle was tough for Molly-Mae, 23, as the influencer was forced to stay home with her young daughter while he flew to the Arabian Peninsula with his older brother Tyson Fury and his team.

Recalling the moment she won a split decision, Tommy said: ‘It was tough for her. Her emotions were up and down, everywhere.

“She was upstairs nursing at the time and was waiting for her sister to come in and tell her (the result).”

Tommy also lashed out at those who doubted his ability to beat Paul, a successful YouTuber who entered boxing at the unconventional age of 21 by the sport’s usual standards.

He said: ‘People have opinions, but I came out on Sunday and won. It felt amazing. Tyson is my older brother and it was a great fight for me. It was good to have my time at the top and it was good to prove everyone wrong.

He added: “It was difficult, I was wondering if I was missing something because my fellow Brits weren’t behind me.” Fighting is always in my family, it’s like having a cup of tea. I had the weight of the world on my shoulders that night.

‘Bambi, my little girl, was born and I was getting ready to go to war and then on FaceTime it had to be daddy. It was hard but I got over it.

“I don’t care about people’s opinions as long as my wife and children are happy.”
