Tom Kerridge looks set to irritate customers once again by increasing the price of his Harrods fish finger sandwich from £18 to £27.

The Michelin-starred chef priced his fish finger sandwich at £18 at the Knightsbridge department store’s Kerridge’s Fish and Chips restaurant in September last year.

The TV chef’s signature sandwich is now sold with a side such as chips, cole slaw, chopped peas or broccoli for £27 and is no longer advertised only on the menu.

The addition of a side softens the impact of the expensive new price, because they usually cost £8.50 or £9.50 separately, so diners can save 50p depending on which one they choose.

But some customers may not be happy because they can no longer buy the sandwich alone for £18.

Defending the sandwich on social media, Harrods wrote: ‘We look at your classic butty and make you the Kerridge’s Fish Finger Sandwich with Pickled Cucumber and Tartar Sauce.

Kerridge’s fish stick sandwich is by no means the most expensive thing on the menu – the whole fried lobster costs £80.

You can also buy up to 250g of the exquisite Oscietra caviar, served with chips and crème fraîche, ranging in price from £32 for 10g to a whopping £490 for 250g.

In October last year, Kerridge, 50, sparked anger by charging £37 for fish and chips at her posh Harrods chip shop.

The ‘Market Day Fishmeal’ features a piece of Cornish fish coated in Kerridge’s gluten-free batter and is served with just eight chips, plus Matson curry sauce, tartar sauce and pea pudding.

A customer then became furious: ‘What planet is he on? There is a cost of living crisis. Who can afford their prices?

Kerridge, owner of nine UK restaurants and three Michelin stars, opened Kerridge’s Fish and Chips in Harrods in 2021.

The TV chef said of the launch: “I’m proud to bring my version of the best seafood dishes to the world’s most iconic department stores.

‘I truly believe that British talent and produce are at the forefront of good cooking, and that is reflected in our team and the food we will serve at Kerridge’s Fish & Chips.

‘The dishes champion the highest quality ingredients, including incredible lobster, oysters and fish from some of Britain’s best suppliers.

“They are all cooked to perfection and served with sensational sides, such as triple-cooked fries topped with a choice of Matson curry sauce and cheese, plus Thermidor lobster, Morecambe Bay prawns or caviar – what unbeatable combinations.”
