Rita Wilson has broken her silence on what really happened on the red carpet when her husband Tom Hanks appeared to “berate” an employee at the Cannes Film Festival.
As the couple attended the premiere of his new movie Asteroid City on Tuesday, the 66-year-old actor looked uncharacteristically frustrated as he poked a finger at the man.
Actress and producer Rita, who also stars in the film, was seen holding her hand out in front of her as she spoke to the unnamed man.
However, Rita has now rectified what actually happened and took to Instagram hours later to clear the air about the “argument.”
Rita shared a photo of the moment and wrote, “This is called “I can’t hear you. People screaming. What did you say? Where should we go?”

Annoyed? The actor was seen sticking his finger in front of him with his brow furrowed as he stood next to his wife Rita Wilson, also 66
‘We had a great time. Go to Asteroid City!’
Dressed in a tuxedo suit and bow tie, Tom was seen speaking to the pair in what appeared to be an attempt to calm the situation.
However, Tom seemed to remain miffed as the trio spoke before walking down the red carpet to pose for photos at the event.
The moment caused a stir online with much speculation about what happened to spark the reaction of the “one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.”
However, it seems it was nothing more than a misunderstanding according to Rita’s account of the exchange.
The moment came to the fore on Wednesday’s Lorraine episode, when host Lorraine Kelly asked her show business correspondent Tyler West for his opinion.
When asked if Tom was having a “tirade,” Tyler said, “Did he think that?” Look at his smile. I do not think so! He walked the red carpet, and that picture right there, he just needs to pee! He wants to know where the toilet is.

Lorraine said, “He just asks, which way should I go?” He doesn’t shake his fists.’
Tyler confirmed, “You can’t believe everything you see in these pictures.”
While Lorraine added, “Sometimes the camera lies.”
In the evening Tom wore a black tuxedo and matching bow tie which he paired with a nice white shirt for the premiere.
His partner Rita looked glamorous in a chic black dress with a long black cloak trailing on the floor behind her.
The garment was adorned with silver jewels that shimmered under the spotlights on the red carpet.
Both Tom and Rita seemed in good spirits as they posed for photos before heading inside to watch the movie.
The film, a coming-of-age film about stargazing in the desert, is directed by Wes Anderson.
Asteroid City is set in the 1950s in a fictional American desert town that has an eerie feel to it.
At a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention designed to unite students and parents in scientific competition, things go haywire when a world event takes place.

In this way! At one point, the man appeared to be gesturing to Tom as he posed for pictures with his co-stars on the carpet.

Everything is fine here! However, Rita has now set the record straight on what actually happened, taking to Instagram hours later to clear the air about the ‘argument’

Hanks time: Asteroid City is set in the 1950s in a fictional American desert town that has an eerie feel to it (Tom, right, is portrayed with Jason Schwartzman in the movie)
The story revolves around a widower played by Jason Schwartzman who takes his four children to their grandfather, played by Hanks.
“In my loneliness, I’ve learned to trust the people I love completely and unconditionally,” Hanks’s character tells Schwartzman. “I don’t know if that includes you, but my daughter and your four children are.”
Their car breaks down, so they take it to Asteroid City to be repaired.
His son, played by Jake Ryan, is fascinated with the town’s annual junior stargazer game.
Soon the family is drawn to the strange city where aliens are feared.
Also in the film are Tom’s wife Rita Wilson and Tilda Swinton, Matt Dillon, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody and Liev Schreiber rounding out the cast.

And Maya Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, plays a role in the unusual film.
Steve Carell, Willem Dafoe, Tony Revolori, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee and Jeff Goldblum are also in attendance.
