Hanks was hired as honorary member of the US Army Rangers Hall of Fame in 2006 for his role in Saving Private Ryan.

“I received extensive training on the kind of service I was never asked to do because I was too young and there was no sketch,” said Hanks at the Hidden Heroes gala in Washington, DC in October. “So this is a matter of giving back.”
