The Adelaide headquarters of Tom Cruise’s Church of Scientology in Australia has been sold for an unknown amount in a multi-million dollar deal.
225 Pulteney St acts as an office and worship space for the SA faction of the controversial organisation, which has rented the space for several years.
While the asking price has not been released, the property was expected to generate net bids just below the $3 million price tag, r reported.ealcommercial.com.au on Friday.
The property was jointly owned by Catnip Investments PTY. LTD, Robert James Simpson, Jack (1988) PTY. LTD and Wheaton (1992) PTY. LIMITED.
The former owners rented the building on a month-to-month basis to the Church of Scientology, which has several famous members.
It’s unclear if the new owner will continue to rent the space to the organization, but the listing says the monthly lease could provide short-term income.
The sale was handled by Sam Alexander of Cushman and Wakefield, who said interest in the property was strong given its location in the city and the investment opportunity.
“The current lease is a continuing lease and they (the Church of Scientology) have been there for a long period of time,” he said.

The two-story building features a gray facade that opens to a large information center displaying books written by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
A worship and conference room was set up in a room in the back with a bust of Hubbard and two signs spelling “Ideal” with a projection screen between them.
Another bunker-style movie theater was listed, containing only two chairs with a projection screen.

Some of the 84 technical training films created by Hubbard are likely to be broadcast here for new recruits during their spiritual progress.
Also included in the building are several office spaces, classrooms and a garage.
It is believed the Church of Scientology could move into the former home of Messenger Community News in Baynes St, Port Adelaide if the lease is not renewed.
The organization purchased the property in 2019 for $3.24 million.
