Suri Cruise is making the most of her last summer in New York before officially starting her freshman year as a college student in Pittsburgh.
And like a true New Yorker, the 18-year-old escaped the city and headed east for a beach getaway on Fire Island, where she was pictured sunbathing on the sand, exclusive photos from DailyMail.com show.
Travelling with friends, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise enjoyed a weekend of swimming and sunbathing at Ocean Beach, one of the popular resort’s idyllic villages.
Dressed in a tiny brown bikini, she looked relaxed and carefree as she lounged on the sand, reading, tanning and napping.

She alternated between her beach chair and towel for tanning and reading sessions, before taking a quick dip in the ocean to cool off.

An eyewitness told DailyMail.com: “They arrived in the early afternoon and stayed on the beach for a few hours. They mostly chatted amongst themselves and then read or took naps on the beach.
‘Suri was the only one in the group who went into the ocean to swim.’
The college-bound teenager is already in the middle of summer break after graduating from high school last month.
Suri, who now uses her mother’s middle name as her last name, graduated from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in late June.
LaGuardia High School, often referred to simply as LaGuardia, is a public secondary school specializing in the visual and performing arts.
Earlier that month, DailyMail.com revealed that Suri will be leaving her hometown of New York to head to Pittsburgh for her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University this fall.
Suri was accompanied by a group of friends, but went virtually unnoticed by the other bathers and visitors to the island.
At one point she was seen arranging her towel on the sand before lying back to soak up some rays.

She has since been spotted enjoying her free time with friends and her boyfriend Toby Cohen, her prom date, in New York.
Cohen is a budding singer-songwriter who will attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston in the fall. Suri, who has been studying dance, is said to be “leaning toward” studying fashion.
Carnegie Mellon’s School of Design is one of the oldest and most highly regarded programs in the country.
Now, with acceptance into their hallowed halls, a remarkably stylish mother and a wardrobe said to be worth $5 million, Suri is off to the best possible start if that is the path she chooses.
A source close to her told DailyMail.com last month: “She’s a smart girl and is developing into a very intelligent mature young woman. She has a very close group of loyal friends and knows exactly where she’s coming from.”
Suri, who was born on April 18, 2006 in Los Angeles, is the daughter of divorced parents. Her father is Tom Cruise, who was married to Holmes from 2006 to 2012.
Suri (seen above) is embarking on her next chapter in life and will be living away from home for the first time in just a few months.

Katie Holmes was married to the Top Gun star and famed Scientologist from 2006 to 2012, when they divorced and she left the church.
Cruise, 61, has made only financial contributions to his daughter’s life, and he has not been seen with her since 2013, after Holmes left the marriage and the Church of Scientology, the religion to which Cruise is so devoted.
When the couple split in 2012, it was reported that Katie had decided to end the couple’s marriage out of fear of raising her daughter as a Scientologist.
Her decision to leave religion, as well as marriage, caused a major rift between the former spouses and is believed to have led to Cruise’s estrangement from his daughter.
Under the divorce settlement, Cruise agreed to pay Holmes $400,000 a year until Suri turns 18 and will also continue to pay her college tuition.
Under the terms of the agreement, although he is physically absent from his daughter’s life, he has covered and will continue to cover “her medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular expenses.”
But despite having little to no relationship with her father, Suri is, according to sources, a happy and well-adjusted teenager who has loved growing up in New York City.
Her mother was seen supporting her at her high school graduation ceremony, which took place at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights.
The teenager wore a long white dress underneath a bright red graduation gown, open-toed heels and her long hair loose.
