Tom Brady’s former teammate Logan Ryan expected ‘some type of break’ at the end of the season because family issues as well as on-field struggles were ‘weighing on him’ last year.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner had a difficult final season in the NFL after he unretired as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to perform consistently and Brady divorced supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen, who showed off her surfing skills Friday, after 13 years of marriage.
Ryan, who played with Brady in New England with the Patriots between 2013 and 2016 and then with the Bucs in 2022, claimed both the on field and off-the-field issues took their toll on the 45-year-old.
‘I think just knowing how he was interacting with his family, his kids, in terms of really wanting to spend time with his kids and be there with his kids, that was a little different,’ Ryan told Colin Cowherd, via JoeBucsFan.com.
‘Because his kids were older. I think the stuff that was going on off the field and on the field I think was weighing on him a little bit, as obviously we’re all humans.

The couple have two children, Vivian and Benjamin. Tom also has a third son from a previous relationship. They are shown in February 2022, after he announced he was retiring
‘So I knew that there was going to be some type of break after the season.’
Brady announced his retirement from the NFL ‘for good’ in an emotional 52-second video posted on social media on February 1 – one year to the day that Brady first announced his retirement in 2022.
On the field, Brady suffered the first losing season of his 23-year-long NFL career as his Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad fell to an 8-9 record.
Off the field, he finalized a highly-publicized divorce in October 2022.
For weeks, speculation had mounted that the pair were divorcing as a result of Brady’s decision to go back to work.
He announced his retirement last year, but then reversed it a month later. Brady had just put up one of the worst statistical seasons of his career.
Brady’s eventual final game came in the form of a blowout loss in the NFC Wild Card playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys, where he walked out of Raymond James Stadium as a player for the last time.
Speculation continues to swirl over whether Brady will come out of retirement again.
‘I’m taking it every day just one day at a time,’ Brady told PEOPLE of his first full summer without football in over two decades.

‘I love my time with my family and trying to get some work things done. I’m still staying pretty busy.’
Brady jokingly admitted he’s still working on being present with his children in a Father’s Day post earlier this month.
The legendary quarterback shared a heartwarming upload dedicated to his own dad, Tom Brady Snr., and his three children.
Brady shares his youngest two children, Benjamin and Vivian, with ex-wife Bundchen and also has his eldest son, Jack, from his two-year relationship with Bridget Moynahan, which ended in 2006.
