Tom Brady has named his top five quarterbacks in the NFL ahead of the new season.

Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spoke on a panel with Stephen A. Smith on Monday.

The Fox analyst said earlier in the conversation that he thought Patrick Mahomes was the best in the NFL right now.

But when naming the other players, Brady said: “Josh Allen is someone who impresses me as a player. Lamar Jackson impresses me.

‘Some players may have different timings, but Joe Burrow is very impressive in the way he throws the ball and is another player who has a great connection with his teammates.’

Brady was clear that Patrick Mahomes is his first option with Buffalo’s Josh Allen at second.

Brady wanted to leave it at four, but Smith stepped in and said, “I’m going to put Aaron Rodgers in there.”

Brady replied: “Of course. Absolutely.”

Discussing the Kansas City Chiefs’ prospects of winning a third straight Super Bowl, Brady praised Mahomes.

“In my opinion, he’s the best quarterback in the NFL,” Brady said.

I could talk about his physical abilities, but you know why I look at him and say he’s great?

“I see how he has won the affection of his teammates. I see the joy they feel when they are playing together… I listen to the press conferences as much as I see him launch a tight spiral.

“Ultimately, that’s what the (quarterback) position is all about.”

Brady also praised the Baltimore Ravens' Lamar Jackson during his list.

Brady was asked to name who he thought could beat the Chiefs in the AFC and he picked two strong contenders.

He said: ‘I would say all of those teams are going to be tough, I think it’s still the Bills or the Bengals because of the play of their quarterbacks.

Asked about the Ravens, Brady said: “They’re up to par. They’re exceptional. The Ravens just have to do more in the postseason for me to feel like they’re up to par.”

“The Bengals have been to the Super Bowl. The Bills have been to championship games.”

Brady was then asked who the biggest threat to the Chiefs is in the entire NFL.

He replied: ‘I think the 49ers and Packers will probably still be a great team.

“I think the Rams are going to be a good team, too. They have a very good offense and a good receiving corps. They lost Aaron Donald, nobody can replace him, but they’ve drafted players very well and they have a very underrated defense. I think they’ll be a team to watch, too.”
