Tom Brady has appointed Pete Carroll as head coach of Las Vegas Raiders.
The 73-year-old has signed a three-year-old deal with an option for a fourth season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Brady was reportedly enthusiastic to appoint former Detroit Lions head coach Ben Johnson in the role, but Johnson finally chose to take over the Chicago Bears instead.
Carroll had a year out of coaching in the NFL after leaving his role at the Seattle Seahawks, but had worked as an adviser at the franchise.
Carroll won the Super Bowl 2013 with the Seahawks – they defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Metlife Stadium. It remains the only super bowl in their history.
He inherits a team that has passed a terrible season among his predecessor Antonio Pierce, who was fired by Brady after a 4-13 season in Vegas.

Tom Brady has supervised the appointment – he is a minority owner in the AFC West Franchise
Carroll and his new team have the sixth choice in the NFL concept and a lot of work to rebuild the schedule – with immediate questions about who will be his quarterback.
Carroll will help decide who will take the Raiders with that choice with John Spytek, who left his role as assistant – -generally director at Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the new Raiders GM this week.
Spytek, 44, replaces Tom Telesco, who was fired after just a year together with coach Antonio Pierce.
Brady, an owner of the minority of Raiders, ended his play career as the Quarterback of BUCs and would also supervise that agreement. He and Spytek were college teammates in Michigan.
The sixth concept choice is a difficult position for the Raiders to connect their Quarterback Gap, with the top two QBs on the plate Sheteur Sanders and Cam Ward. In addition to a trade, the Raiders will almost certainly miss those two.
Brady’s role as a minority owner in Vegas has been a source of extensive controversy, since he also has a $ 375 million deal to be an NFL analyst for Fox.
Last Saturday he called the Lions match against Washington commanders who had spent the week interviewing the then Lions OC Johnson about leaving for the Raiders.
