Tom Brady apologizes for comparing football to ‘commitment to the military’ on his own podcast, while Buc’s quarterback complains about his ‘very poor choice of words’
Tom Brady apologized in his podcast earlier this week for comparing football to military service, telling reporters on Thursday that he “shouldn’t have made the comparison.”
Brady spoke on his ‘Let’s Go!’ podcast with Nets star Kevin Durant when he made the comment, while dealing with the rigors of his 23rd season in the league.
“I almost look like a football season like you’re going for the military,” Brady said.

“And it’s like, ‘Man, here I go again.’
Brady’s comment angered many online, who found the comment deaf and insensitive from someone who has made more than $330 million in career earnings (not including notes).
‘Oh Tom Brady… go fuck yourself. Being a football quarterback doesn’t even come close to military commitment,” one Twitter user said said. ‘I haven’t been able to see my kids at all for a year (*except for the 2 weeks of R&R halfway through). They couldn’t fly out to see me doing my job whenever they wanted.’
“Tom Brady thinks playing football is like going into military service. We both wear uniforms and our marriages/relationships can be tense, but that’s where the similarities end,” said another. said.
“He plays a game to entertain people. We risk our lives to defend this country.’
Brady was quick to apologize for his words at a press conference on Thursday, raising the issue before answering the first question of the day.
“Earlier this week I made a statement about football and the military and it was a very bad choice of words, and I just want to express that to all the feelings out there that people have taken it a certain way. So my apologies,” he said.
He later continued in the press, “I am immensely grateful to everyone who has served. And in the end we play a game, and the army defends our country.
“They’re two different things and I shouldn’t have made that comparison.”
Brady and the Bucs play against the Panthers this weekend.
