Tokyo Olympics: Team GB undergoes disastrous attempt to defend men’s 3-meter synchronized diving title
Team GB’s Jack Laugher endures a disastrous attempt to defend the synchronized 3m men’s diving title after finishing seventh with partner Dan Goodfellow… as dominant China wins gold ahead of the US and Germany
Team GB underperformed in the men’s synchronized 3m diving final with Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow both finishing well outside the medals.
Laugher was part of a pair that won Olympic gold in Rio five years ago, but along with Goodfellow, it never looked like getting a medal as the duo worked near the bottom for much of the match before finishing as seventh of the eight contenders finished.
The pair struggled throughout the competition, and only a failed dive by the Russian Olympic Committee team prevented them from finishing at the bottom of the field, as they were at least looking for a medal before the match.

China dominated the competition to win gold ahead of the US and Germany.
Laugher and Goodfellow got off to a bad start with a dip back into a pike and saw them hold the field up after the first lap.
However, they immediately struck back to show their potential with an inward dive into a pike and saw them move into a tie for fifth place.
But from then on, form failed them, as a series of three somersaults in a tucked-in position caused them to score lowest in the three rounds to leave them way back in the field.
A botched dive by the Russian Olympic Committee team, which resulted in a nil score on the final lap, saved their blushes from finishing last.
Laugher and Goodfellow, however, made their best dive of the competition on the final lap, with a pike forward two-and-a-half somersault with three twists, taking them second overall in the round.
