Great Britain’s men launched their campaign for the Tokyo Olympics with a 3-1 win over South Africa at the Oi Hockey Stadium.
Sam Ward struck early to give Great Britain a flying start, but the lead proved short-lived when Matthew Guise-Brown equalized just 10 minutes later.
It was level at half time, but Great Britain enjoyed a dominant second period, claiming maximum points in the Pool B encounter through goals from Liam Ansell and Jack Waller.
Team GB men’s hockey team kicked off their Olympic Games campaign in Tokyo
Great Britain will face Canada in their next game on Monday in a group that also includes the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
Belgium previously defeated the Netherlands 3-1, and there was fear for the number one team in the world, Australia before beating Pool A opponents Japan 5-3.
In the other group A matches, India defeated New Zealand 3-2 and Argentina drew 1-1 with Spain.
