Today show reporter Brooke Boney surprised some viewers after they noticed she now appeared to be presenting the news with a polished British accent.

The veteran journalist, 37, announced earlier this year that she would be moving to England in September to study, and fans have joked that she appears to be taking public speaking lessons before moving.

‘What’s up with Brooke reading the news with the Queen’s accent? She never used to talk like that. “She sounds a little strange, some days she’s stronger than others,” asked a fan on the Media Spy forums.

‘It’s definitely new. “It’s like he’s gotten speech training or something in the last few months,” another viewer added.

‘I noticed it early last week. It’s usually pretty strong in the first sentence of whatever you’re reading.

Another fan suggested that Brooke was learning to speak with the British Received Pronunciation accent, before studying at Oxford University.

One upset viewer said the accent sounded fake and asked for Boney to go back to speaking in his normal voice.

—It sounds false. People put on that accent when they imitate the royal family or laugh. It’s the Today show, not ABC.

In March, Brooke announced her shock resignation as news presenter on Channel Nine’s Today show, revealing she would be leaving the role in September.

She confirmed on air that she will move abroad to study at the University of Oxford from September and will leave the program after the Paris 2024 Olympics in August.

Boney shared a touching message with his fans after announcing his shocking resignation live on air.

In an Instagram post after the news broke, the TV star shared a moody image of herself on the street along with an emotional caption.

“I’ll reply to everyone over the weekend and we’ll do all the crying stuff when I leave in September,” she wrote.

The television host confirmed that she will be leaving the popular morning show to pursue her educational dreams.

Boney will study an intensive year-long Master of Public Policy course, which focuses on economics and policymaking.
