Sarah Abo suffered a fashion faux pas on Thursday morning during her work trip to France to cover the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Today co-host, 38, was filming a segment for her Channel Nine breakfast show in the French capital when a guest revealed she had broken a major rule.

The presenter, who wore a simple white T-shirt and black jeans, draped a grey scarf over her shoulders and covered her dark locks with a cream beret.

But when she met Australian expat and podcaster Oliver Gee, he was quick to point out that “only tourists and old people in the countryside” wear berets in France.

“I’ve got my beret on, my baguettes on, and I’m about to find out if I can actually pull off this whole Parisian look,” Sarah told viewers at the start of the segment.

But Oliver told him: “I love baguettes, I love bonjour, I’m not so sure about the beret.”

“What do you mean? Don’t all French people wear berets?” Sarah asked.

“Just tourists and old people from the countryside. It’s not right. I think we need to get rid of them before we start,” Oliver explained.

The journalist seemed disappointed as she removed her hat and said she “really liked” her appearance.

Sarah flew to France in style last Friday for the Paris Olympics.

She was spotted checking in for her first class flight at Sydney Airport.

The international multi-sport event will take place from July 26 to August 11.

Sarah looked excited as she headed to the airport, and A Current Affair presenter Allison Langdon was also spotted checking in for the same flight.
